Top 5 bread stick games to play

Hey everyone! Ever wonder if there are easy and simple games to learn at the cafe? look no farther than our bread stick game. these games are great to beginners and young kids. With over 50 games to choose from and our collection always expanding there’s sure to be something for everyone.

  1. Kings Gold

This is my  favorites bread stick game to play. This pirate plundering game will have you and your friends out for gold and revenge. The goal of this game is to be the richest captain of the sea. You’ll want to bring your best luck to the table because your role of the dice will determine how much gold you will get.

  1. Color Addict

This game, like UNO, is a rush to win. The goal of the game is to get rid of all your cards first. The tricky part of this game is the cards can mess with your mind. For example, if a card says ‘red’, but is written is blue, you may either put a blue or red card down on top of that card. If a card says ‘red’ and is written in blue, but has a green splotch in the card, you can’t put down a green card. The paint splotches are latterly there to confuse you.

  1. Curios

This objective reasoning game is one that many here at the café are a fan of. The goal of this game is to have the most point at the end of the game. The card under each of the treasure sites will determine how many points each gem from that site is worth. See how many points you can get when you and your friends play Curios!

  1. Sushi Go!

This game of cute little sushi characters is so fun to play! The goal of this game is to have the best combination of sushi. This is a pretty fast game but is really exhilarating once you get the hang of it. Go gain as many points as you can and become a master sushi chef!

  1. Spot It!

Spot it is a great game to play especially with kids. The goal of this game is to have the most cards at the end of the game. To win cards you match any item or animal to the same item/ animal on the center card and say, “spot it!” and take that card. This competitive game is so fun to play and it’s quick.

Great games for you to bring to the table this Christmas.

Let’s face it we love to play games. As you gather with your others to celebrate this season you all know you want to bring out some games and try and get people to play.   Sure, some will be more interested in football or catching up on the latest gossip. However, these games are sure to be inviting and perhaps help you gather people around the tabletop for your favorite pastime.

Short and Immersive.
Some people are convinced that our hobby only offers games that take hours to play.  They grew up playing Risk or Monopoly and have no idea what great games are available today.  A short game works perfectly before the family feast.  These games have a short play time but also keep people continuously engaged.

Lanterns: The Harvest Festival.  Playtime 25-30 minutes. On your turn you place a tile to decorate the Chinese Emperor’s Palace Lake with beautiful floating lanterns. Every time a tile is placed everyone at the table receives a lantern tile. Based on the arrangement you just made you can draft cards to ultimately score points. The game moves quickly. Players are drawn into the game by the beautiful array being created and the fact that you are watching to see how other players’ placements will impact your options when it is your turn. This game has been a big hit with families at the café.

Curios: Playtime 15-20 minutes. Let me just say for a 20-minute game you will not find anything better than Curios. Fast, immersive and a hoot-lotta fun. In Curios you are illegal treasure hunters searching the worlds famous archaeological sites for lost artifacts (curios). However, the market value for each type of curios is only partially known by each player. You know some but not all the facts about this shifting market and as each player acts to move their treasure hunters from one site to another you can gain additional information based on their actions. Curios is an immersive game of deduction, bluffing, and quick decisions like no other. This simple and intuitive game is quick to learn and even quicker to play!

Easy to Understand Game Mechanic.

Sometimes we just want a game that you can pick up and play within minutes of opening the box. Especially when introducing games to non-gamers. Here are two of our top choices.

The Mind: One of the biggest hits this year is The Mind.   In the Mind you have to mind-meld with the other players around the table to place cards in the correct order. It is more than just a game. It’s a magical experience, an experiment, a journey in which you can’t exchange information, yet will become one to defeat all the levels of the game.  The Mind was nominated for the Spiel des Jahres award and won the Origins Award for best game.

Silver: A fast and engaging traditional card game with a werewolf twist! Everyone starts the game with five face-down cards, with everyone being able to see two cards of their choice. On your turn you draw a card. Play it for its effect or use it to replace one of the cards in your village triggering that cards effect. Your goal is to rid the village of werewolves. When you think you have succeeded you call for a vote. Several expansions with additional cards are soon to be released.

Themes to draw them in.  Here are a few games where the theme helps draw in new players.

Forbidden Dessert: The is an awesome cooperative game where you have crash landed in the desert and must work together to survive and fix your airship. You’ll need to coordinate with the other players and use every available resource to survive the scorching heat and relentless sandstorm. Find the missing parts and escape before you die of thirst. It plays up to 5 players and since it is cooperative new players can freely ask questions and seek advice from the other players.

Fuse: Fuse is a timed cooperative dice game. There are 20 bombs aboard your ship and you have ten minutes to disarm them. Dice are rolled, players select dice to resolve their part of the disarm requirement, and you succeed or fail as a team. It is a race against time that is sure to have everyone scrambling and working together.

Finding Just The Right Game To Give.

By Raelle Richard (Game Guru, Barista and Geeky Blogger)

Gifting Games

It’s that time of year again! You know what I’m talking about: the season of shopping. Most of us have a list as long as Santa’s with names of our family and friends that we intend to buy gifts for. If you are still in need of some ideas then don’t worry because we have got you covered! This Christmas, give the gift of fun with a board game. Board games are the perfect gift for anyone and with hundreds of games to choose from, there is bound to be something for everyone on your list. We have a few suggestions to get you started!

Kids

In my opinion, the best games for kids are games that adults can enjoy as well because how many of us actually like playing Candyland after a certain age? Qwirkle is a great game that kids can play with their parents. Qwirkle is a game that we have described as Scrabble but with shapes and colors. Adults can enjoy Qwirkle because there is a decent amount of strategy involved while young kids can play it almost like a matching game.

Qwirkle: A Great Game for Kids and Adults

College Students

Party games are great gifts for college students to take back to school with them and play with their friends after break. One of the games my friend group played frequently during my college days was The Resistance. The Resistance is a bluffing game in which everyone is working together to take down an oppressive government. However, there are a certain number of players who are secretly spies trying to stop this from happening. The fun of this game is trying to figure out which of your friends are on your side and which are not.

Bluffing – Intrigue – Fun for all!

Geeky Friends

We all know at least one person who loves superheroes and, chances are, you’ve bought them one too many shirts with Batman on it. One of our favorite games, perfect for any superhero-lover, is Marvel Legendary, a cooperative deck-building game staring some of Marvel’s most popular superheroes. In it, players work together to defeat the villain by building up their decks with hero characters then using them to attack the villain and his henchmen and rescue civilians. This game is cooperative so either everyone wins together or everyone loses together, but the bad guys you fight also give you victory points if you are a competitive group and need to know who has the most points.

Great Card Drafting Game. Full of Geeky Goodness.

Couples

We have plenty of two-player games that would be a perfect gift for any couples in your life, but one of our favorites is Patchwork. Patchwork is a game in which players are competing to create a “quilt” in a Tetris-like fashion. We like Patchwork because it is easy for anyone to learn despite the surprising amount of strategy involved in the game. Patchwork is perfect for any age whether the couple you have in mind has been together for many years or they’re younger or recently married. This game is also a great idea for your own significant other if you are looking for games you can play together.

Couples Love to Play Patchwork at The Cafe

Families

Whether the family in question is your own or not, we have plenty of great games that any type of family will enjoy playing together. One of my personal favorites is Ticket to Ride, a game that I even managed to teach my own non-gaming family. If my family can not only understand and play Ticket to Ride, but also have fun while playing it, then any family can. Trust me on this one. In Ticket to Ride, players are trying to place trains on a map of the United States in order to connect two cities and finish their routes. Another great thing about Ticket to Ride is that there are many different maps to choose from so if your family is already familiar with Ticket to Ride, try picking up one of the other boards for something new.

Ticket to Ride is a must for families.

All of these games and more can be purchased at The Game Table Café. Here you can find a game for anyone on your list, no matter who they are or what they like. And from all of us here at The Game Table Café, have a wonderfully merry Christmas and a happy holiday season.
